Original Song by ©Daniel Hammond   ” Watching the Trains”

This song was a metaphor of my brother’s life during a time when he was going through a divorce. For about 2 years, he hung around our farm, wrestling with his loss.

Watching the Trains Go By

©Daniel F. Hammond 2020

Heard you left on the midnight train without even saying goodbye.

What about all the plans we made, I don’t understand why.

I thought we’d always be together, but I’m here all alone.

Hangin’ around the railroad tracks watching the trains go by.

I’m watchin’ the trains as they roll on by,

The rhythm of the wheels brings tears to my eyes.

I can hear the whistle’s lonesome cry.

I’ll be on the lookout with each passing train,

All the engineers now know me by name.

If you need me, you’ll be able to find me, baby.

Heard you made it to your destination and word is your doin’ just fine.

I really don’t want to wish you ill, but I miss you all the time.

Every train that rolls on by, I wonder if you’re comin’ home.

So, I’m hangin’ round the railroad tracks, watchin’ the trains go by.

Been to see all your close friends to find out where you’ve gone.

But they won’t even breathe a word to tell me what went wrong.

You’ve covered all your tracks so well my searchin’ has been in vain.

So, I’m hangin’ round the railroad tracks, watchin’ the trains go by.

I’m hangin’ around the railroad tracks, watching the trains go by.

Hangin’ around the railroad tracks, watching the trains go by.
