Original Song by ©Daniel Hammond “Southbound Train”
I have a lot of train history in my family. Both my grandfather and great grandfather worked for the railroad. I guess that is why I enjoy writing songs about trains. I hope you enjoy it!

South Bound Train

Took a north bound train to southern Illinois.
I had never been away from my Georgia farm before.
But Daddy told us to fight if your gonna stay free,
So, I watched that train head south without me.
But sometimes late at night when all gets quiet
And the fog is hangin’ low;
My tears flow like the fallin’ rain
At the sound of the south bound train.
Your letters can’t arrive here fast enough.
Every minute that passes, I fall more in love.
Three more gruelin’ days, then I’ll be home.
Just waitin’ on that south bound train.
If only the train would stop rollin’
If only that whistle wouldn’t blow.
Maybe my tears would stop flowin’
And maybe I could sleep tonight.
But sometimes late at night when all gets quiet
And the fog is hangin’ low;
My tears flow like the fallin’ rain
At the sound of the south bound train.
My tears are flowin’ like the fallin’ rain
I’m comin’ home on that south bound train.
